Oobleck, Tons of Glowy Fun!

Oobleck is fun no matter what your age. I mean, who wouldn't love a slime that has both liquid and solid properties. It's great to teach kids about science. My son uses it as one of his "stations" when he if board.

Here is what you need:

  • A bowl
  • A Spoon
  • Cornstarch
  • Water (or tonic water)
  • doTERRA essential oil in Lavender or Wild Orange (optional)
Start with 1/4 to 1/2 cup of corn starch and add a little bit of water at a time stirring well each time. The right consistency is when the spoon moves easily through the slime when moved slowly but makes it crack, split and feel solid when moved quickly. Optionally you can add a few drops of essential oil for therapeutic benefit. Not only will the slime smell great but if they play with it with their hands the oils will benefit them topically as well.

To make this activity even more fun all you need is a dark room and a black light. Oobleck will glow a bit anyway because the corn starch is white but if you want added black light power use tonic water instead of normal water. The quinine in tonic water is black light sensitive and will give your slime a little extra glow.
